The Washington Post climate rebrand
Responsibilities:
Branding
Art Direction
Illustration
I led the visual direction for the expanded climate section at The Washington Post. I developed a color palette and illustration style to be consistently used across all climate-related content. Additionally, I worked on branding for new columns and a newsletter that launched alongside the section’s expansion.

I created this versatile color palette for all illustrations and graphics featured in the climate section, as well as for the climate-focused Instagram account. (See more about my work on that account here.)
My goal was to capture the essence of nature, reflecting the diverse elements often found in the team’s coverage. I also ensured the palette was flexible enough to complement both uplifting, positive stories and more serious, urgent topics within climate reporting.

One of the biggest projects I worked on during the climate expansion was the launch of Climate Coach, a twice weekly newsletter and column that gives advice to readers on how to deal with a warming world.
I worked with artist Eleni Kalorkoti to commission a portrait of Michael Coren, the author of the newsletter, along with spot illustrations to accompany each recurring section of the newsletter. I then went on to art direct the column each week.
